The URINE-TEST Mailing List

"No drug, not even alcohol, causes the fundamental ills of society. If we're looking for the sources of our troubles, we shouldn't test people for drugs, we should test them for stupidity, ignorance, greed and love of power."
--- P. J. O'Rourke

This is the homepage for the urine-test mailing list. The list was started to provide a place for the discussion of urine tests. The scope of the list includes basically all issues regarding or related to drug testing. Some issues included in this area for example are testing in the workplace, ethics of drug testing, accuracy of available drug tests, new forms of drug tests, methods used to foil drug tests, etc. Urine test hasn't been that active lately. I would like to get more people to join and contribute. There are a lot of interesting and sometimes even scary developments in terms of drug testing including tests to determine the contents of sweat and the recent efforts to implement mandatory drug testing for all people arrested, whether convicted or not. This sounds blatently unconstitutional to me but I'm no lawyer.
If you would like to check out the archives of the mailing list then check them out here:

By default, nobody will be able to find out you subscribe to this list unless you post to it. The digests of the list are available in a public FTP site open to the entire world so be careful what you post to the list.

To join this mailing list, simply email listproc@calyx.net with the Subject line BLANK and the body of the message containing only the following:

subscribe urine-test your name
where your name is your first and last name. If you like, you may recieve a digest of the list which, basically means that instead of getting a separate email for each message on the list, you will get one big email containing several messages. The digests go out whenever the messages total 500 lines, or 24 hours have passed - whichever comes first. You may find this convenient if you subscribe to more than one mailing list. To recieve the list in digest format send another message to listproc@calyx.net with the Subject line BLANK once again and the body containing only the following:
set urine-test mail digest
to turn digest off if you don't like it put this in your message:
set urine-test mail ack
once you have joined the list, if you feel comfortable doing so, post a note to the group introducing yourself. If not, then just read each message as it comes in, and hopefully it will be useful to you. If you have any questions or comments about this mailing list or any of the files related to it, email nick@calyx.net, the moderator of the list and System Administrator of Calyx Internet Access.

Drug Testing's Smoking Gun(s)

ROBERT L. DUPONT (former drug czar & former head of NIDA) was and maybe still is a partner in one of the largest urine testing companies. After promoting urine testing for years in government and making mandatory drug tests part of many Federal contracts, DuPont joined Carlton Turner (former drug czar) and Peter Bensinger (another former head of NIDA) in contracting as advisors to 250 of the largest corporations to corner the drug testing market. In a similar situation, former NYC DEA Bureau Chief Robert Stutman having lobbied for stiffer laws for years, and having left the agency now makes his living by owning Complete Compliance, a drug testing and consulting firm which assists small business in complying with new Department of Transportation and Federal Highway Administration drug and alcohol testing regulations.
